This SIG will serve as a space for those working in the field of Philosophy of Education whose scholarly and teaching interests intersect the areas of aesthetics, philosophies of art, art education, or art-based curriculum theory. A number of PES colleagues turn to the study of aesthetics to understand issues critical to education such as media literacy and communication, our relationship to natural and built environments, the value of the arts and humanities, to name only a few. In addition, many philosophers of education look to art interpretation and history in particular as sites of transformative education. Finally, a number of PES members work in art education or art-based curriculum departments or programs at their institutions. The SIG will offer opportunities for collegiality and collaboration for those working and thinking in these areas to share new resources, build symposia proposals for future conferences, network across institutions, read and think together.
